why am i posting on this instead of socializing at the conference?
because i'm feeling antisocial after my disappointing and boring post-panel discussion this morning. look at this funny site i love. it was linked to the website of this guy kenneth kidd who writes about ecocriticism and children's lit...maybe only interesting to me? he's also a UT english alum.

Well, we talked about a number of boring things. "Revelations" included:
1. Girls don't like the word "feminist" anymore.
2. Teen magazines make girls want to be skinny.
3. Girls nowadays wear clothes that are far too skimpy!
4. Girls nowadays think that skimpiness = power, and where did feminism go wrong?
5. Covers of magazines are airbrushed!
6. Monsters represent the Other!
I could go on. Argh. I tried to bring up an actual Book in the conversation - that Marchand book Becky covered in Meikle's class - and people looked at me like I had three legs.
